- Review the Labor Market Analysis file provided to you. As reading through it, answer the following questions:
- What do you notice about the job postings in our area? Focus on the type of job, amount of jobs being posted, fulfillment, salary, and education level.
- What do you notice about the top hard and common skills in job postings vs. frequency in profiles (note that profiles are the skills identified by those applying for the jobs)?
- A conversation with Madwell. Madwell is a national marketing firm with a branch in Denver. Use this as an opportunity to talk with them about various jobs in the marketing field. Write 1-3 questions that you want to ask them about marketing and graphic design and include the response/answers. If someone else asks the same question, note the response/answer. If you do not get to ask all your questions, note that as well.
- Review the Degree Pathways provided to you. You will notice that CCD offers four different degrees/certificates in graphic design:
- One-year certificate
- AAS in Graphic Design: this is called a direct-to-work degree because it’s not intended to transfer.
- Graphic Design Metropolitan State University of Denver Transfer
- Graphic Design University of Colorado Denver Transfer
- identify one benefit and one weakness of each degree (think skill development/time/money, etc.)
- identify what overlap exists between these four degrees—for instance how many classes are the same in all four degrees. Do some certificates and degrees align well?
- Look at the two four-year degrees, what kinds of courses do you take in the first two years? What about the last two?
- Are there courses in any of the degree pathways that you are concerned about being able to pass?
- Look at the current tuition rates for each school. What is the cost and time difference for each degree if you are a student taking 2-3 classes a semester?
- After doing this research, which Graphic Design degree will you pursue?
